Magical mystery at Maine Media fundraiser

Jun 09, 2017

Rockport — Maine Media Workshops + College’s annual art sale fundraiser is dubbed Mystify the Senses and offers an evening of engaging experiential presentations Thursday, June 22, at the newly renovated 162 Russell Ave., formerly home to Center for Maine Contemporary Art and its predecessor, Maine Coast Artists.

The evening promises to engage guests through a sampling of what happens on the Maine Media campus. Productions include a 19th-century photographic print process, whimsical film projections and a red carpet photo booth for guests. Jason Leddington, a Bucknell professor of philosophy, will enchant patrons with sleight-of-hand magic and “impossible souvenirs” from the evening.

The annual art sale includes prints and books by more than 25 artists. Local businesses and individuals have generously donated experiences for a silent auction. Proceeds from both the art sale and silent auction will support programming and student scholarships. Artists who have donated prints to the art sale include Arthur Meyerson, Keith Carter, Joyce Tenneson, Eliot Dudik, Cig Harvey, Amy Lowry and Richard Blanco. The silent auction items include portfolio reviews by Maine Media faculty, Brenton Hamilton and Elizabeth Greenberg; a one-on-one night sky tutorial with Nate Levesque; and a portrait session with Cig Harvey.

Since in-town parking is severely limited, off-site parking on the Maine Media campus at 70 Camden St. with shuttle service will be available for all guests. A VIP reception (tickets $250) begins at 5:30 p.m., with early art preview and purchase opportunities and unique hands-on experiences. Doors will open for general admission at 6:30 p.m. (tickets $40) with plenty of food, beverages and fun for everyone. Tickets for the event are on sale through Eventbrite.
