Lyme support group to hear from yoga teacher March 13

Rockland — Midcoast Lyme Disease Support & Education will host Lea Smith as its guest speaker at its meeting Tuesday, March 13, from 6 to 8 The Knox Center, 6 White St.

Smith began practicing yoga in high school after a bout with Lyme Disease and immediately felt the benefits it had to offer. In 2014, she became a 200-hour certified yoga teacher through WellHeart Yoga School in Portlandand a children's level I yoga teacher through ShivaShakti School of Yoga in Union. In 2017, she received her 500-hour teaching certificate through the American Viniyoga Institute.

Smith shares in her classes how the practice of yoga is multifaceted and can offer relief from Lyme-related symptoms. She will share her Lyme journey and how it brought her to yoga. She will discuss the benefits of yoga for chronic illness and how the practice can be adapted to each individual. The talk will end with an introduction to beneficial breathing exercises and ways to release neck and shoulder tension.
