Union — Luce Transportation is changing hands, but will remain in the family.

The company, headquartered on Route 17 in Union, provides transportation throughout Maine.

Ownership of the business has transferred from Wayne and Molly Luce to their son, Ben, and his wife, Mandie Luce.

Luce Transportation began in 1987 with one bus in Hope. Founder Wayne Luce said the first job was a successful bid to operate a Hope school system bus run, driving Hope students to Camden-Rockport High School.

Wayne Luce had become a bus driver at 19 years old in 1975, when he was attending college in Rockland. He was hired by then-School Administrative District 5 Transportation Director Bud Wood. Luce said he believes he was the youngest bus driver in the state at the time.

The business moved to its current location in Union in August 2014.

Wayne's son, Ben, has worked for the company for nearly 15 years.

"Ben will be awesome. This is a legacy. He is the right person at the right time," Molly Luce said.

Luce Transportation has a new telephone number, 542-1596, and the new email is lucetrans@yahoo.com.

Other than those changes, the Luces said, the business will continue as it has.

Wayne Luce will continue to inspect the buses.

In addition to school bus runs, Luce Transportation also provides charter transportation for any function.

Congrats Wayne! We all get younger every year, don't we? Here in AZ the sun is up and shining at

50 degrees, our winter, Imagine!  Good luck with your new endeavor.
