Our pet pick of the week is Loki, a very handsome, very solid, 5-year-old boxer/pit mix. This big boy is a little on the shy side and can look intimidating in his kennel, but get him outside and away from the hustle and bustle of the shelter, and you'll see he really is a sweet boy. He likes to go for walks and enjoys all the sights, sounds and smells a good car ride brings. Loki isn't too keen on other dogs, but did live with cats. If you're looking for a loyal companion to share the couch with, come check out Loki.

Zeus and Hermes are looking for homes, too. They are two adult albino rabbits that came to us through a state seizure case. They are very friendly, active rabbits. They are tired of being cooped up and would love homes where they are part of the family and get to stretch and hop about to get exercise. They love their rabbit pellets and, of course, fresh vegetables and Timothy hay. If you're looking for some bunny to love, we have two awesome bunnies to choose from. Stop in and meet Hermes and Zeus.

Join us this Saturday, May 12, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the shelter for our Be Kind to Animals celebration. In collaboration with the Coastal Children's Museum, we are celebrating with pet -hemed kids' games, crafts and other fun activities and a special appearance by pot-bellied pig extraordinaire, PMHS alum Mr. Nibbles, formerly Gubby. Created more than 100 years ago by American Humane, Be Kind to Animals Week celebrates our love for animals and the importance of compassion towards animals. This event is free -- just a celebration of kids, pets and kindness! Come spread some kindness.

Saturday, May 19, is our annual Clean Up and Cook Out. We need help sprucing up the place by weeding the garden, raking out some gravel, grooming the dog trails and the like. We'll start at 10 a.m. work up an appetite, and then around noon we will feed you a grilled lunch in appreciation of your hard work. Many hands make light work and it’s sure to be fun. For more information, contact Kelly at 594-2200. Our annual meeting will be held at 1 p.m. following lunch.

Wish list: Kitten milk replacement formula, peanut butter (a great frozen treat for the dogs), Temptations cat treats (they're crazy for them), toilet paper, Zip-loc bags (gallon), sponges, wet dog food, wet cat food (poultry pate style) and gift certificates to Walmart, Staples, Amazon and other local businesses. Thanks for your support.
