The USM Youth Ensembles Spring Instrumental Concert will take place in Portland’s Merrill Auditorium.

Portland — Camden Hills Regional High School student Harper Gordon will perform as a member of the acclaimed USM Youth Ensembles in their Spring Instrumental Concert Thursday, April 11, at 7 p.m. in the downtown Merrill Auditorium.

More than 250 young people from all over southern and central Maine travel to the University of Southern Maine’s Gorham campus to rehearse each week in order to have the opportunity to work with USM faculty and professional conductors, who train and challenge members through the experience of playing in these high caliber ensembles: the Portland Youth Wind Ensemble; the Portland Young People's String Consort; the Portland Youth Junior Orchestra; and the Portland Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Gordon plays cello with the PYSO, which will perform the overture from “The Abduction from the Seraglio,” K. 384 by W.A. Mozart; the first movement from Haydn's "London" Symphony; and the first movement from Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 in C Major, Opus 21.

Suggested donation at the door is $6, $3 for senior citizens and students. For more information, call the USM Music Box Office at 780-5555.
