Local architect wins national award

An Owls Head “Gallery Addition” by Priestley + Associates Architecture of Rockport is one of seven winners of Marvin’s Red Diamond Achiever Awards.

Rockport — Priestley + Associates Architecture has been selected as a winner in the annual Integrity Red Diamond Achiever Award competition for a project in Owls Head. The competition recognizes architects and builders for excellence in new residential and remodel projects.

A panel of nationally recognized judges selected the 2017 winners. The panel included Lou Manfredini, DIY expert, “Today Show” contributor and host of several home-improvement TV shows; Marvin Companies Director of Corporate Strategy and Design Christine Marvin; Fine Homebuilding Consulting Editor Brian Pontolilo; and Shawn McCadden, a nationally-known speaker, business trainer, columnist and award-winning remodeler.

The projects were judged on outstanding creativity, unique architecture, complexity, sustainability and solutions to construction challenges. From a field of more than 139 entries, the judging panel selected seven Red Diamond Achiever winners.

The Priestley + Associates Architecture entry connected two existing, traditional, white-clapboard houses with a distinctly contemporary addition of approximately 1,500 square feet. The two-story addition was positioned to afford outstanding ocean views, as well as create ample gallery and hanging space for the owner's art collection. Integrity Wood-Ultrex windows and doors provided clean design and sharp detail.

The Red Diamond Achiever Award winners will receive a profile on the Integrity website and its social media channels; a VIP trip for two to Minneapolis and Warroad, Minn., for a Marvin Windows and Doors facilities tour and awards ceremony; and a glass award that features a picture of their project. A cash donation also will be made on behalf of each winner to a charity of choice.

I like the design very much and the addition is sleek, contemporary, and brings the outdoors in with all that beautiful light– Wouldn't it be nice to live there. I'd never leave!

Not an integrated design...the addition looks stuck on and not aesthetic.
