Live stream, auction opens at Action Art Gallery

Oct 03, 2019

ROCKLAND — A Facebook live stream of a 12' x 5' mural creation will be available starting Thursday, Oct. 10, at the new Action Art Gallery, 411 Main St., #206. Artist Scarlet Kinney explores animal and feminine archetypal energies in her paintings, and will be working live in the gallery three days a week for the month of October. The opening reception is Oct. 4 during the First Friday Art Walk from 5 to 8 p.m. Kinney will be available to discuss the work.

Public participation in discussion is welcomed in the gallery and online. The artist describes the work with the following imagery: "It was her sense of his presence somewhere nearby, just beyond the periphery of her dream, and his intoxicating masculine scent, that woke her from her long sleep. During her slow ascent back into consciousness, she floated in the in-between – in the womb of that liminal space between sleep and consciousness; between what had once been and what was yet to come."

The painting, entitled “The Dancer and The In-Between,” will be auctioned off during the live feed. The completed painting will sold to the highest bidder. Bids may be made on the live feed, over the phone, and in person during business hours Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Starting bids are $1,500 per panel or $4,500 for the full mural.

Action Art Gallery, in partnership with the artists, is committed to donating ten percent of all sales to local charities and community-oriented organizations in Maine. As October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Kinney has chosen Next Step in Ellsworth. The online feed will be available Oct. 10 through 12, 17 through 19, and 23 through 25, from 1 to 4 p.m. A closing party will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. For more information, call 299-4015.
