Wiscassett — The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office has reported the following local incidents:

May 4

A crash occurred on Route 1 in Edgecomb involving Robert E. Day, 62, of Warren and Lee R. Straw, 61, of Newcastle. Both vehicles were heading northbound. Straw was in the passing/turning lane in his 2011 Chevrolet Express, attempting to turn left. Day was operating his 2016 Ford F150 in the slower lane of traffic to the right of Straw’s vehicle. A vehicle directly in front of Day’s vehicle abruptly stopped to turn right onto Cross Street, and he attempted to go around that vehicle and was unable to get back into the slower lane before making contact with the rear passenger area of Straw’s vehicle. Deputy Chase Bosse was the investigating officer.

May 6

A crash occurred on Route 1 in Nobleboro involving Taylor N. Guptill, 18, of Friendship, and Kurt A. Ward, 25, of Chesapeake, Va. Guptill was slowing her 2016 Jeep Wrangler in traffic and Ward was following too closely in his 2016 Volkswagen Passat and as a result, he was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of Guptill’s vehicle. Deputy First Class Brian Collamore was the investigating officer.

An arrest or summons does not constitute a finding of guilt. An individual charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty at criminal proceedings.

Both accidents occurred and should not have. Tailgating is mostly the number one cause of accidents.
