Rockland — A lien of nearly $250,000 has been filed on the Mid-Coast School of Technology property by an electrical contractor.

ELCO Electric of Bangor filed the lien Monday, Oct. 7, in the Knox County Registry of Deeds.

The certificate of mechanic's lien states that ELCO provided labor and materials of $224,673 on the Mid-Coast School of Technology building that opened last month. The electrical contractor states that it had a subcontract agreement with Sheridan Corp. of Portland signed in September 2017.

Sheridan was selected by the Region 8 Board to be the general contractor with its low bid of $20,811,000.

The lien was filed to secure the payments owed to ELCO. ELCO completed its work in September 2019, according to the lien document. ELCO is represented by attorney Brett Baber of Bangor.

Attorney John Lambert Jr. of Portland, who represents Sheridan, said much of the disagreement was between the architect and the subcontractor on the work done. He said there is a process to resolve such disputes and it will be resolved.

He said the amount in dispute is a very small percentage of the entire building project.

"In the grand scheme of things, this project went very well," Lambert said, noting that the region has a wonderful new school building.
