Lester Emery

West Rockport — Lester S. Emery, 92, died Jan. 18, 2013, at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta, following an extended illness.

Born in Owls Head, Sept. 25, 1920, he was the son of Eugene R. and Emily A. Ratcliff Emery. He began school in Owls Head and after attending Rockland High School for one year, and after moving to Camden, was a member of the 1938 class of Camden High School.

Having enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, he served with the Coast Guard throughout World War II, and was honorably discharged.

Throughout his career he worked as a commercial fisherman, purse seining. He also worked painting houses and doing interior wallpapering and painting.

He was a member of the former Camden Businessman’s Club.

Lester was happiest when working, many hours of which were spent working on his home.

Predeceased by his son Ronald Emery, June 23, 1996; and one sister Murial ‘Beda’ Dean, Lester is survived by three daughters, Dianne L. Emery of West Rockport, Suzanne Grogins and her husband David of Newtown, Conn., Ivy Forrest of Bangor; two sisters, Camilla Polisner of Portland, Joan Watters and her husband Kenneth of Medford, Ore.; two brothers, Chelsey Emery and his wife Mary of North Situate, R.I., Desmond Emery and his wife Elinor of Camden; five grandchildren, Jonathan Grogins, Alison Grogins Drasin, Molly Forrest, Calico Forrest Burton, Thalo Forrest; five great-grandchildren; and his companion of many years, Jeanne Ryan of Northport; several nieces and nephews; as well as his daughter-in-law Brenda Bragg Emery Cayouette of West Rockport.

No services will be held at this time. Spring burial will be at West Rockport Cemetery.
