Miramant's lighthouse license plate approved by transportation committee

A bill by Sen. Dave Miramant, D-Camden, to create a lighthouse license plate was unanimously approved by the Legislature’s Transportation Committee Feb. 6. The bill, LD 1870, “An Act To Create the Maine Lighthouse Trust Registration Plate,” would create a special recognition plate to support the preservation and restoration of Maine lighthouses.

If the bill becomes law, those who choose the license plate would pay an extra fee that would be used to maintain Maine’s historic lighthouses.

The bill now faces votes before the full Senate and House.
