Lang pins down regional title, six Windjammers qualify for states

South Paris — The Camden Hills wrestling team saw its share of success on the mats at the Class A North high school championships on Saturday, Feb. 10 at Oxford Hills, with one regional champion and six podium finishers — and state qualifiers — overall.

Those grapplers helped the Windjammers sail to a fifth-place finish — amassing 104.5 points — while Nokomis of Newport clinched the regional title.

Camden Hills’ Noah Lang dominated the 145-pound weight class on his way to a 3-0 record and the regional crown.

Other top-four Windjammer finishers — all of whom qualify for the state tournament — include Eric Andrews (3rd at 106), Devin Hutcheson (4th at 113), Dawson Allen (3rd at 120), Ian Henderson (3rd at 132) and Alex Vokey (3rd at 170).

Thus, Lang, Andrews, Hutcheson, Allen, Henderson and Vokey will participate in the state Class A championships, slated for Saturday, Feb. 17 a 9:30 a.m. at Sanford High School.

The Class A North team scores were: Nokomis 169.5, Cony of Augusta 145, Skowhegan and Oxford Hills of South Paris 144, Camden Hills 104.5, Morse of Bath 103, Mount Ararat of Topsham 89.5, Erskine Academy of South China 86, Mount Blue of Farmington 58, Messalonskee of Oakland 29, Buckfield 20, Windham 18, Gardiner 2 and Bangor no score.

The individual Camden Hills results, with Windjammers listed first, were:

106 pounds — Eric Andrews beat Jonathon Lujan, Mess, 11-2; lost to Calvin Peck, Nok, 11-3; beat Tucker Gallagher, MtB, 2-0; and beat Lujan, Mess, 9-0, in the consolation final. Andrews finished third.

113 pounds — Devin Hutcheson was pinned by Jagger Bullen, MtB, at 3:39; pinned Evan Grady, Gar, at 1:26; beat Jordan Douglas, Mor, 8-3; and was pinned by Jagger Bullen, MtB, at 4:31 in the consolation final. Hutcheson finished fourth.

120 pounds — Dawson Allen pinned Adam O’Farrell, MtA, at 0:30; lost to Josh Brown, Nok, 6-4; pinned Riley Smith, OxH, at 0:35; and won by technical fall over Connor McNish, Mor, 16-0, in the consolation final. Allen finished third.

126 pounds — Joshua Saucier beat Momo Halwah, Cony, 15-8; was pinned by Michael Sprague, EA, at 1:38; and was pinned by Dominic Pelletier, Wind, at 3:34.

132 pounds — Ian Henderson won by technical fall over Josh Barrett, Wind, 18-2; was pinned by Ben Laurence, MtA, at 5:20; pinned Caleb Johnson, OxH, at 1:19; and won by major decision over Ben Brewer, Mor, 12-0, in the consolation final. Henderson finished third.

138 pounds — Nikita Perevalov was pinned by Chandler Shaw, Skow, at 0:42; and lost to Adam Loewen, MtB, 15-0 by technical fall.

145 pounds — Noah Lang won by technical fall over Kyle Walker, Wind, 16-1; pinned Hayden Nile, MtB, at 0:54; and pinned Brock Glidden, EA, at 2:20 in the championship final. Lang finished first.

160 pounds — Brady Hedstrom was pinned by Dawson Stevens, OxH, at 1:07; pinned Connor Dore, Skow, at 1:25; and lost by technical fall to Tucker Nicholas, MtB, 16-0.

170 pounds — Alex Vokey pinned James Archer, MtB, at 1:20; lost by major decision to Austin Pelletier, Mess, 11-2; beat Harald Christiansen, EA, 5-2; and beat Jason Paradis, OxH, 10-7, in the consolation final. Vokey finished third.

182 pounds — Kenneth Date was pinned by Alex Glidden, Nok, at 1:20; and was pinned by Brady Mitchell-Damms, MtA, at 0:59.

195 pounds — Justin Secotte was pinned by Dakota Melvin, Skow, at 1:55; and was pinned by Ihsan Myers, Mor, at 0:43.

285 pounds — Ben MacWilliams was pinned by Jacob Peavey, EA, at 0:27; beat Jeff Kirk, Bang, 7-1; and was pinned by Mitchell MacFarland, Cony, at 0:33.
