Rockland — A 55-year-old Rockland man being held at the Knox County Jail on a charge of trying to strangle a woman is in more trouble with the law.

Paul S. Douglas was charged Friday, March 15, with aggravated assault and terrorizing.

According to an affidavit filed in the Knox County court by the Knox County Sheriff's Office, jail staff contacted deputies about the alleged assault. The surveillance video at the jail captured the incident, which occurred Wednesday, March 13.

The video shows Douglas poking the eyes of another inmate and then punching the victim repeatedly as he is on the floor.

The victim suffered scratches to his cornea, and injuries to his neck and head, according to the affidavit. Douglas had also threatened to kill the other inmate, according to the affidavit.

The incident began over a disagreement about who should have a crossword puzzle in the newspaper.

Douglas has been held at the jail since being arrested Feb. 8 on charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, domestic violence criminal threatening, domestic violence terrorizing and violation of a condition of release.

The victim in that assault case told police that Douglas was angry because her friends had arranged a birthday party for her, but he was not invited, according to the affidavit filed in Knox County court by police.

She said Douglas grabbed her by the throat and pushed her against the wall. The officer noted in the affidavit that the woman had red marks on her throat.

The woman also acknowledged to the officer that this was at least the 10th time that Douglas had tried to strangle her. She said she almost passed out one time, and he told her that if she called police, he would kill her before officers arrived, according to the affidavit.

Douglas was arrested. Officers found that Douglas had a duffel bag in the house that contained three revolvers and multiple different rounds of ammunition.

Rosemary, don't waste your breath or advice on her because in her very uneducated opinion-everyone is either a drug addict or insane. She has no other way of thinking.-Melanie Keene

Sound like a full pledged psychopath to me. He should probably be committed to a Psych ward and throw the key away....
