Kigel’s Attic Window series at Philippe Guillerm

Jean Kigel’s “Of Tides and Atmosphere” depicts windows the Waldoboro artist spotted in Pascal Avenue in Rockport.

Waldoboro — “WHAT’S UP THERE Attic Window Series,” a exhibition of work by Waldoboro artist Jean Kigel, will open with an artist’s reception Saturday, Sept. 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. The opening at Philippe Guillerm Gallery, 882 Main St., is part of the monthly ArtWalk Waldoboro.

Kigel travels Midcoast Maine towns, seeking unusually shipped attic windows in the form of crescent moons and polygons; or ornately arranged and decorated multi-panes. In her oils and watercolors, the viewer is invited to take a virtual look from the street into attic windows to imagine the story within.

“There is something romantic about an attic,” Kigel said.

The gallery also will present Philippe Guillerm’s new collection of sculptures as it joins with the nearby Tidemark Gallery, Heywood Gallery and Medomak Arts for the village’s second Saturday art walk.
