Rockland — The Midcoast 5-kilometer race series, One Community Many Voice’s annual quartet of fundraiser events, returns on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 11 a.m. with the inaugural "Kickoff" 5K, presented by First National Bank.

The "Kickoff" 5K is the third race in this year’s series, which will be followed by the "Frightening" 5K in October.

The September race — which has a football theme — will start and finish near First National Bank.

Runners should wear their best — and most obscure — football jerseys, as one will be selected for a special prize. The race also will have football-themed prizes for the top overall finishers, as well as the top finishers in each age category.

The race is scheduled so one can hoist a celebratory beer at one of Rockland’s bars just as the 1 p.m. football games kickoff. A runner's or walker's bib is good for a $2 Pabst Blue Ribbon Tall Boy at Trackside Station, for patrons ages 21-and-older.

The "Kickoff" 5K also is the ninth race in the 2019 Run Midcoast Maine series.

Registration for the "Kickoff" 5K is $20 in advance via https://runsignup.com/Race/ME/Rockland/Kickoff5KOCMV or $25 on race day.
