South Thomaston — The detours are over for the South Thomaston area community.

The new Keag River bridge opened Friday afternoon, Nov. 3, two days earlier than planned.

The new bridge replaces a span that had been there for 86 years over the Weskeag River. The bridge work began Oct. 2, and motorists have been detoured since that day.

Reed & Reed also constructed the prior bridge back in 1931.

I suppose Friday made sense since they would have had to work Saturday and Sunday to finish on regular schedule. No overtime under the wire. Great. Much safer I am sure.

You have to hand it to Reed & Reed.  There aren't many construction projects these days that finish early!!  Thanks for a job well done!
