Artist Jon Mort will host ‘Tidal Tales’ his annual Open Studio August 3rd and 4th, 10 AM to 5 PM, at Fieldstone Castle in Port Clyde, Maine. A special Artist Tour and Talk will take place Saturday at 1 PM.

Widely recognized for his startlingly realistic and uniquely composed colored pencil renderings, the millennial artist combines his twin passions for history and science by exploring their impact on the human narrative. In 2018, he traveled through Ireland and England, viewing Neolithic timekeeping structures, historic telescopes and chronometers, and a catalog of scientifically inspired art and architecture.  His fascinations with the historic and popular influences of space exploration are frequently reflected in his artwork.

Jon underscores the role of storytelling in his work by saying, “The journey toward knowing, toward the goal of an objective truth, is reflected in the practice of making the drawings. The idea that deeper insight is worthwhile, that growth along the path to understanding is of value, manifests in the practice of scrutinizing found objects.”

Following some 20 major exhibitions, including at the Phillips Museum, the Portsmouth Museum of Art, and the Sandy Spring Museum, the MassoniArt-Carla Massoni Gallery featured Mort’s work in the Spring-2019 show titled ‘Hold These Truths’. He was recently featured in Temper Art Review and American Art Collector Magazine.

In the Fall of this year, the Somerville Manning Gallery in Greenville, Delaware will host his solo exhibition.

Jon Mort lives and works in Washington, DC during the winter and Port Clyde, Maine in the summer.  His work can be seen in public and private collection internationally.
