Job fair set for April 18

Rockland — The second annual Spring Hiring Fair will be held Wednesday, April 18.

The event will run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the South School, 30 Broadway.

A ribbon-cutting is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. with representatives of the city of Rockland, the Maine Career Center, Rockland Main Street Inc., and the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce.

There will be nearly 60 employers at the fair, which will be held in the school's gym.

Last year, the event drew 300 job seekers and 50 Midcoast employers, offering 600 jobs.

"As this period of record unemployment continues, the 2018 Spring Hiring Fair offers an opportunity to speak with local businesses, organizations, and attendees looking for work," a news release from Rockland Main Street Inc. states.

In February, the non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Knox County was 3.7 percent, which is a historic low for February The region's unemployment traditionally declines through August.
