Vero Beach, Fla. — Joan Patterson Woodhull, 83, passed Dec. 16, 2018, in Vero Beach. Born in Bronxsville, N.Y., in 1935, she was a longtime resident of Owls Head with her husband, Tad. She was founder and director of Art of the Sea galleries in South Thomaston. Starting her career with KLM, she became a successful yacht broker, a licensed pilot with more than 1,000 hours, an offshore sailor and breeder of well known Glenraven golden retrievers.

She enjoyed volunteering for the Owls Head Transportation Museum and was on the board of Pope Humane Society. She will be remembered for her smile and love of laughter and was always surrounded by her family, friends and beloved pets. Joan is survived by her brother, Tony; her husband of 59 years, Tad; son Jay and daughter-in-law Marie; daughter Joy; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson, Hunter.

A memorial service will be held at the Episcopal Church of St John Baptist, 200 Main St., Thomaston, at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 29. She will be laid to rest in her family plot in Valhalla, N.Y . Donations may made to Pope Memorial Humane Society, P.O.Box 1294, Rockland, ME 04841.
