Camden — Jean Beckley Crane passed away Jan. 28, 2018, at Sussman House in Rockport. She was surrounded by those who loved her.

Jean was born in 1942 and was raised in Montclair, N.J. She was the daughter of John L. and Eleanor Howe Beckley. After graduating from high school at Dana Hall in Wellesley, Mass., Jean attended the University of Vermont, graduating in 1964 with a degree in both math and economics. She took classes at Parson’s School of Design in New York City before marrying Michael Crane in 1965.

Together they had two children and lived in Panton, Vt. They divorced in 1979 and she returned to New Jersey to be near her family. She worked at the Economics Press, her father’s company, in North Caldwell N.J., as an illustrator. She was a talented painter and drawer who created both realistic watercolors and abstract, expressionistic oil paintings throughout her life. She spent her last few years living at the Camden Villa.

She is survived by her sister, Georgia Jervey; her brother, William Beckley; her daughter, Brooks Crane; her son, Peter Crane; and her grandchildren, Aiden, Caellen, Zola and Atalanta Roberts, and Dakota and Samantha Crane.

A memorial service will be held on May 26 at 4 p.m. at the Vesper Children’s Chapel in Rockport with a reception and art show of her work to follow at 162 Russell Ave., Rockport, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Her paintings will be available in exchange for donations to the Sussman House, Pen Bay Medical Center's hospice facility.
