What’s love got to do with fish? Come find out when Barbara Kent Lawrence introduces The Other Island: Ben’ s Story, sequel to her 7th book and first novel Islands of Time.

At 14, Rebecca Granger falls in love with Ben Bunker. In the late 1950’s, a summer girl is not allowed to love a year-round boy, son of a fishing family from Downeast Maine. Yet, she does. When her father dies - overpowered by loss and anger, she commits a sin, terrible at the time, that nearly destroys her. Returning to Maine as an adult, she struggles to come to terms with that past.

In the sequel, Ben tells his side of the story, deepening our understanding of his life and of characters and events in Islands of Time. Ben, now a fisherman and a marine biologist, also shares his perspective on the changing fisheries of the Gulf of Maine and Georges Bank, and the ways in which they affect his family and community, as well as all of us who share this planet and its oceans.

Lawrence, who taught courses including writing and memoir at Lesley and Northeastern Universities, will also discuss her writing process, answer questions, and sign and sell books.
