North Haven — A 28-year-old North Haven man admitted to stealing a cell phone from a woman to access private photographs.

Harold D. Sandelin Jr., appeared in the Knox County court Sept. 10 and pleaded guilty to theft and criminal invasion of computer privacy.

Under a deferred disposition reached with the district attorney's office, if Sandelin adheres to the agreement over the next year, he will be sentenced to seven days in jail and pay a $500 fine. If he violates terms of the agreement, he could be sentenced to more time in jail.

Conditions include substance abuse counseling and writing a letter of apology to the victim.

The incident occurred July 6, 2019, on Vinalhaven when he took the cellphone while attending a party, and obtained several private photographs that were on the phone.

Deputy Daniel Landers charged Sandelin with the offenses shortly after it occurred.
