Hope and Appleton receive ConnectME grant

Jun 01, 2021

The ConnectME authority awarded the 2021 Round 1 statewide broadband infrastructure grants Wednesday, May 26. LCI/Tidewater Telecom, in collaboration with the towns of Hope and Appleton, was chosen to receive one of the grants. The Hope and Appleton Fiber to the Home build-out project that will bring high speed fiber optic broadband to over 1,000 homes and businesses, was awarded $705,752.00. LCI/Tidewater Telecom will be investing $1,058,628 into the project.

Last year the voters of Maine supported a $15 million Broadband Bond for rural, unserved Maine communities. The ConnectME grant secured for Hope and Appleton will allow LCI/Tidewater Telecom to complete the fiber optic broadband build-out in those towns to the 100% level, while offering service to an additional 1,034 residents in Hope and Appleton over the next two years.

“The fact that over 1,000 previously unserved homes and businesses will have access to super-fast and reliable broadband in Hope and Appleton is awesome,” said Alan Hinsey, director of Marketing and Sales for LCI/Tidewater Telecom. “We are so proud to be a part of this effort. And proud that Hope and Appleton will be the next 100% Fiber to the Home communities in Midcoast Maine. Bringing fiber optic broadband to students, families, telecommuters, distance learners, businesses and senior citizens can truly be life changing.”
