Miller School fourth-grader Kristina Rolerson prepares to release a homing pigeon.

Waldoboro — On Friday, Oct. 26, Miller School fourth-graders learned about homing pigeons. One of our teachers, Brad Yost and two friends, Ed Bliele and Russ Burns, brought in 28 pigeons. The students learned that homing pigeons can fly up to 600 miles in a day, and fly 55 to 60 mph. They lay two eggs and they hatch in 18 days. They learn to fly in three weeks.

Twenty-four students were picked to release 24 pigeons. The pigeons all flew up and made a circle, then flew back to their homes. All of the pigeons made it home safely.
