Rockland — Members of the Rockland Historical Society will dedicate the Old Tillson Avenue Watering Trough in the small park in front of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 11 am. The old watering trough was originally located in the middle of Tillson Avenue in front of the St. Clair and Allen Candy Co. (now Gemini Marine Products). It was one of four fountains throughout downtown Rockland to water the thirsty horses hauling limerock to the kilns along the harbor.

The public is invited to join the two horses and two of the people who grew up playing in the fountain, as we share the history of the watering trough and thank the staff of the F. J. O’Hara Co., who restored it, and the staff of the Wastewater Treatment Plant ,who installed it.
