July 7 or July 9, 2020  |  Maine’s Wide World of Seaweed: $25. The importance of seaweed to our coastal environments is a mystery to many! This session will focus on the importance of seaweed to marine habitats, how to identify seaweed that is local to Midcoast Maine and their varying anatomies. Participants will make their own seaweed pressings.

July 14 or July 16, 2020 | Living in a Maine Watershed: $20. We are all connected through water, especially through our watersheds. Join us for this session highlighting and elaborating on this concept of connectivity. We will dive into topics of pollution, coastal development, habitat remediation, and erosion.

July 21 or July 23, 2020  |  Food Systems: Aquaculture, Aquaponics, and Hydroponics: $30. Knowing how and where your food is grown and its journey to your plate is becoming more and more important to an increasing population of sustainably-focused individuals. This session will highlight the various sustainable food systems that Herring Gut has been using to grow food with local students for over 20 years!

July 28 or July 30, 2020   |  Invasive Species Threatening the Gulf of Maine: $25. As invasive species enter a new area they have the ability to cause physical and biological changes to the habitats they invade. In this session we will explore control methods and potential uses for one specific invasive species, the European Green Crab.

August 4 or August 6, 2020  |  Telling the Tail of Fish Adaptations: $25. Have you ever wondered what the purpose of life is? Join us for a session on fish adaptations, specifically how we can tell how a fish fulfills its purpose of life by simply looking at it. We will also be using this information to design our own fish with art supplies.

August 11 or August 13, 2020  |  Erosion & Human Impacts in Nearshore Environments: $25. As sea levels continue to rise, we are facing the imminent threat of increased coastal erosion. Join us for a session and demonstration of coastal erosion, how we can mitigate this erosion, and why coastal remediation is so critical.
