Heartwood offers winter workshops for all ages

Jan 04, 2021

Damariscotta — Heartwood welcomes 2021 with new programming, small group educational workshops for students of all ages.

“Utilizing our easily accessible studio space, we’re offering six winter workshops, for small groups of six to eight students,” said Executive Director Joy Braley. “It’s a great option for this time and place. We still need art in our lives, performers still wish to be creative, and we’ve heard from parents and students, hungry for meaningful engagement. Our goal is to remain creatively connected, until we return to full programming down the road."

Two tuition-free workshops for students grades 5-8, running Jan. 13 through Feb. 3, include “Acting” and “Making Myth on Film.” Class size is limited to eight students, with masks and the usual safety protocols in place.

February Break workshops are scheduled for students grades 3-8, Feb. 16 through 18, “Scenes, with Myth, Mask and Music” and “Telling Stories on Film.” There is a $75 tuition fee for these two workshops.

“While our focus remains on teaching acting and story-telling, the use of film provides creativity at a safe distance, during this time off-stage and without live audiences,” said Director Griff Braley.

For older students (high school and college) and adults, two seven-week evening workshops will be running Jan. 13 through 27: “Acting and Scene Work” and “Short Film Creation." Tuition for each session is $195, with scholarships available for high school and college students.

Given very limited enrollment, interested persons are strongly encouraged to contact Heartwood immediately by emailing info@heartwoodtheater.org.

This programming is made possible, in part, by Season Sponsor – Bath Savings Institution, Education Sponsor – First National Bank, and Youth Sponsor – Damariscotta Hardware.
