Rockport — The following is a synopsis of the 2014 Camden Hills Regional High School softball team:

Coach/years coached current team: Marty Messer, fifth year.

Last year's record/playoff information: 7-9, 14th in Eastern Class B. The Windjammers failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Roster: Seniors Marissa Libby (outfield), Hannah Bode (first base, outfield), Hannah Corney (pitcher), Bekah Hilt (first base) and Natalie Hamalainen (catcher); juniors Lauren Mitchell (pitcher), Alli MacDonald (catcher, infield) and Paige Morgridge (pitcher, outfield); sophomores Taylor Peasley (first base, outfield), Julianna Haynes (second base), Maddie Bowman (infield, catcher) and Kristen Keiran (infield); and freshmen Charlotte Messer (infield) and Maddie Wickenden (first base, outfield).

Known graduation losses: Taylor Palmer, Megan Legage, Emily Turner-Watts and Amy Haynes.

Significant impact players: Corney and Hamalainen.

Team strength: Offense.

Team goal: To make a run in the Eastern Class B playoffs.

Top league opponents: Oceanside of Rockland/Thomaston, Medomak Valley of Waldoboro, Gardiner and Nokomis of Newport.

Outlook: The Windjammers could be a dark horse in Eastern Class B as Messer said this year's squad is “one of the best hitting teams that I've coached here in the last five years.” He said that the experience of Corney and Hamalainen at pitcher and catcher, respectively, will go a long way, while only a few other players have nailed down positions for the upcoming season.

“This team is very competitive so I know that they are going to work hard to fulfill their individual and team goals,” said the veteran coach.
