Halcyon & Friends stream multimedia concert live from The Waldo

Jan 04, 2021
For “Halcyon & Friends: A Winter Celebration” Midcoast musicians Sophie and Josie Davis and Colin Wheatley collaborate with cellist Nora Willauer and violinist and videographer Luke Fatora.

Waldoboro — The Waldo Theatre’s next virtual concert is a multimedia performance from Halcyon & Friends: “A Winter Celebration,” streamed live from The Waldo stage Thursday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m.

Halcyon is a Maine-based string quartet dedicated to fostering connection, community, vibrancy, joy, accessibility, and warmth through musical performance. On Jan. 14, Halcyon's Sophie and Josie Davis and Colin Wheatley are excited to collaborate with cellist Nora Willauer and violinist and videographer Luke Fatora.

"Join us as we celebrate and reflect on our collective experiences of winter and light in the northern latitudes."

Halcyon & Friends will present an evening of chamber music and accompanying film that captures winter’s striking and wild beauty alongside the subtlety, quiet, and darkness that define this time of year. The program will include Vivaldi’s “Winter” from the Four Seasons, Richter’s "On the Nature of Daylight," and works by Schubert, Debussy, Price, and others. The performance will feature locally filmed imagery that captures the intricacy and beauty of Maine landscapes.

Since The Waldo is not yet open to the public, there will be no audience in the theatre. The performance will be captured in real-time by a technical “stream team” with the use of a new three-camera video system.

Recent virtual concerts at The Waldo have seen audiences of close to 200 online viewers and reached fans in more than 20 states. “Live, virtual performances enable us to connect with our community and support performing artists whose work has been all but halted during the past year,” said Waldo Executive Director Kate Fletcher. “These concerts, live from The Waldo, are heartwarming, joyous, and fun!”

Ticket buyers can watch the event live, in real-time via a YouTube link, or watch an archived recording later for up to one week. Tickets are $15 for one person or $20 for multiple viewers. A link will be sent to ticket-buyers on the day of the concert. Visit
