Gushee, Fenner and Wyman elected to Select Board

Appleton — Appleton residents elected John Fenner and Heather Wyman to serve terms of three years on the Select Board on June 12. Jason Gushee was elected to serve a two-year term on the Board.

Fenner has previously served as Chairman of the Select Board and received 232 votes. Wyman received 251 votes, and four write-in votes were cast for Donald Burke. This ballot question received the most participation from citizens, with a total of 487 votes cast.

Jason Gushee received 229 votes, and ran against Drew McMullan who received 92. The two-year seat Gushee was elected to is the remainder of a term vacated by Scott Wiley.

There were two vacancies on the Appleton Village School Board. Stephen Wadsworth was the only citizen to return nomination papers for one of the seats, each of which is for a three-year term. Wadsworth received 279 votes. Twenty-three write-in votes were cast for Elizabeth Grierson, and two were cast for Deb Kieran.

No one returned nomination papers for a one-year term on the Five Town CSD School Board. Donald Burke received two write-in votes for the position.

There were two vacancies on the Planning Board for associate members, and two vacancies for regular members, all of which were for three-year terms. No one returned nomination papers for the positions. Donald Burke and William Kasabuski each received two write-in votes to serve as associate members. David Kelley received six write-in votes to serve as a regular member of the Planning Board, and Daniel Wyman and Donald Burke each received four.

Voters approved the Appleton Village School budget in a vote of 218 to 124; the proposed budget for the 2018-19 year is approximately $2.5 million. Voters approved the Five Town CSD budget in a vote of 233 to 122. The Five Town CSD includes Camden Hills Regional High School, and the budget for the 2018-19 year is approximately $12.5 million.
