Grace & Grit fundraising event to benefit Brian Fitzpatrick

Oct 03, 2017

Rockport — Grace & Grit is hosting a fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 21, at the former Rockport Elementary School on West Street, corner of routes 1 and 90. The event includes a 5K walk/run, cornhole tournament, children’s activities, food and raffle, with 5K registration at 8:30 a.m. and events beginning at 10 a.m.

Grace & Grit was first formed as a way for friends of Bobbie Jo Eggen to support her during her fight against cancer. The group now honors her memory by helping other local people in need. This year's event supports Brian Fitzpatrick, a local man recently diagnosed with liver cancer.

Fitzpatrick grew up in Camden and now lives in Rockport with his wife, Caitlin, and three children, Carly, Colin and Brynn. Recently he was diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma, a rare cancer in the portal vein to his liver. The tumor is too large to remove, so he is currently undergoing two other types of aggressive treatment: internal radiation and immunotherapy.

Grace & Grit is asking for monetary donations to help with the cost of the event (location, T-shirts, race supplies, food, etc.), as well as items to be raffled at the event.
