Mar 16, 2019

Thomaston — The Friends of the Thomaston Public Library’s Friday Night Film Series, screening films weekly at 6:30 p.m. in Room 200 of the library, 60 Main St./Route 1, focuses on Alfred Hitchcock this month.

On Friday, March 22, the series will screen “Rebecca” (1940, USA), the only Hitchcock film to win an Oscar for Best Picture. The mystery stars Laurence Olivier as Maxim de Winter, a widower whose second wife (Joan Fontaine) moves into his mansion only to find the memory of his first wife still governs the household. Intimidated by the home's hostile staff, she struggles to find her place in this Gothic classic.

The non-rated film runs 130 minutes. The Hitchcock series will conclude March 29 with “Shadow of a Doubt” (1943, USA). Friday Night Films are open to the public and free of charge, but donations are gratefully accepted. The Thomaston Academy Building is handicapped accessible from the rear entrance. For more information, call the library at 354-2453.
