Gospel choir back for Holiday on the Harbor

Rockport — The Songs of Solomon Gospel Choir will return Saturday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m. to bring its passionate and spirited music to the Rockport Opera House, 6 Central St. Presented by Bay Chamber Concerts in 2014 to a sold-out audience, the ensemble comes straight to Maine from Harlem and is directed by the charismatic and inspirational Bishop Chantel Wright.

“Songs of Solomon are terrific fun and really know how to connect with the audience,” said Bay Chamber Artistic Director Manuel Bagorro. “They’ll have people standing up clapping, singing, and participating in what’s really a very moving experience.”

Songs of Solomon is known for engaging performances as well as a commitment to community service through music. Bishop Wright is a firm believer that arts education stimulates children spiritually and intellectually, and also strengthens families. Recently, Songs of Solomon has worked with community-based programs at Carnegie Hall and toured major cities throughout the United States and abroad.

Winner of numerous competitions in the New York metropolitan area, Songs of Solomon continues to serve in a multitude of ways while bringing joy to audiences everywhere. The choir has performed with Earth Wind and Fire, Carole King, Elton John, Aretha Franklin and others.
