Goldilocks seeks a home that's 'just right'

Our pet pick of the week is Goldilocks, a beautiful adult tortoise shell cat. This sweet but shy girl came into the shelter from a feral cat colony (thus the clipped ear) to be spayed and returned through our Trap Neuter and Return program.

But, Goldilocks had a different plan. She let us know that she was not feral, but in fact just a scared, shy cat who, with the right mix of love, time and patience, would be a wonderful companion for someone. Stop in and meet Goldilocks; she's looking for someone "just right." We have well over 200 cats and kittens at the shelter and in foster care, as well as plenty of dogs and other small critters waiting for new homes. Do you have a home to share?

Back by popular demand is McLoons Lobster Shack fundraiser to benefit the shelter. Head on over to McLoons at 327 Island Road in South Thomaston on Saturday, Aug. 12, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for some scrumptious classic Maine fare while enjoying gorgeous Maine views and they'll donate a portion back to the shelter to help us care for the animals. It's a win/win. We'll be there with some adoptable animals on site too. Hope to see you there.

Join us Saturday, Aug. 19, for Clear the Shelters Day! Pope Memorial Humane Society is excited to join News Center / WCSH 6, WLBZ 2 & NBC Universal-owned television stations for this nationwide pet adoption campaign, celebrating its third year. Shelters across Maine, the country and in other parts of the world are joining this campaign to help get homeless animals out of shelters and into loving homes. We will have waived or reduced fees on all of our available animals -- fabulous cats, dogs, puppies, kittens, rabbits, gerbils and whatever else may come through our doors in the meantime. We want to help your family find and adopt your next pet. For more information, visit hskcme.org.
