Girls' night out begins Feb. 7

Jan 25, 2013

Rockport — Third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade girls in Knox County and Lincolnville and their moms, step-moms, aunts or other significant women in the girls’ lives are invited to attend the upcoming Girls’ Night Out program.

All sessions will be held at the Pen Bay YMCA on Thursdays, Feb. 7, 14, and 28, at 6 p.m.

The focus of the popular program is to have fun while enhancing the bonds between girls and moms and provide information about issues such as not using tobacco or other substances, anti-bullying, increase physical activity, and good nutrition. Each evening starts with a “Getting to Know You” activity, followed by a light healthy meal and a short discussion on making healthy choices. The remainder of the evening will be spent playing games and activities that girls and women can participate in equally.

The program is led by Hank Lunn, former school counselor and Nancy Laite, Knox County Community Health Coalition program specialist.

CONNECTIONS programs are funded in collaboration with Pen Bay YMCA, the Camden Congregational Church Out-Reach Committee, the Camden Lions Club the Rockland Kiwanis, Stepping With The Stones, and The West Bay Rotary.

The series is free, but registration is required to participate. It is strongly encouraged that participants attend ALL three sessions. Enrollment is limited. To register, contact Nancy Laite at 236-6313, ext. 2 or
