Plus Paint Nights

Getting Social with sea glass

Aug 11, 2017
Turning sea glass into adornment will be featured at The Art Loft’s Aug. 19 Art Social.

Rockland — The next Art Social at The Art Loft will offer a fun night of learning and creating, while relaxing and making new friends, Saturday, Aug. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The art element will be wire-wrapped sea glass jewelry. Local artist Caitlin Meservey help guide attendees through the process of wire wrapping authentic Maine sea glass into wearable treasures, creating a pair of earrings or a pendant with a chain.

Participants will work at their own pace, with freedom and flexibility to really make the project their own. All materials, including the sea glass, will be provided, although bringing one’s own sea glass is fine too.

Fee is $35. Snacks will be available; attendees also are welcome to bring their own beverages,  including wine or beer. The Art Loft is downtown at 385 Main St., Suite 9 (the Thorndike building).

The nonprofit community art center also offers a number of painting nights this month, including Frieda Hanlon’s Paint the Sea workshop Thursday, Aug. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. ($35); and two Paint Nights ($35) led by Angela Anderson — Puffins on Friday, Aug. 18; and Daisies on Friday, Aug. 25, both from 6 to 8 p.m.
