Getting to Know Your iPhone or iPad – Creative Apps

Get to know the tool you hold in your hands every day. Debbie Gay will introduce you to the many features your iPhones and iPads have that can be used everyday and for creating art: you can write a journal, read books, paint pictures and create fascinating works of art. Learn how to edit your photos just the way you want and save them to the cloud. Debbie will be tailoring each class according to the needs of the students. This class is for the iPhone or iPad; please bring it with you.

Bring Your Creativity to your Photography – Photo Rx

Paula Apro has been leading creative photography workshops here in Rockland for the past several years and during this member class, she will be sharing her many years of shooting wisdom. Please bring some samples of your work for a group critique, both ones you are happy with and ones that didn’t come out quite right. Understand what might be going wrong in the camera and learn simple techniques to improve your shots in challenging conditions. In addition to the group critique, we will also spend some time practicing our creative shooting. Please bring your camera to class along with your photos.

Painting Textures and Layers

In art, the building of layers makes all the difference, and is a skill all artists need to master. Layers of color and texture create beautifully radiant work. Once you learn this skill, put it to use across a variety of mediums; acrylic painting, collage, mixed media, even photography. In this class, we will be using acrylic paints and a variety of household tools to create our layers and textures. Gel printing will also be incorporated.

Learn Camera Settings the Easy Way

Manual mode is where the art is. Shed your fear of switching your camera’s setting from Auto mode and get ready to capture some pretty terrific shots in manual mode. Every camera is different, so find a YouTube tutorial specific to your camera model and learn how to change the settings before attending class. Then see what happens when you come to class and learn how to balance the three camera settings: ISO, f-stop and Shutter Speed. This class is free to members, $20 for non-members. No experience necessary.

Paint Night – Harvest Moon

Join us at The Art Loft for a fun night of painting and socializing as our leader, Justin Kinney, guides us step-by-step in painting one of his original works. You will be amazed at what you are capable of creating, in just two hours as your canvas transforms before your eyes. No experience necessary. All materials will be provided. Please feel free to bring snacks and/or beverages, wine or beer is fine. The party starts at 6 PM and to reserve your spot, please register in advance. Drop-ins only accepted as space permits.

October Harvest Watercolor Workshop

Loosen up and try a bold approach to watercolor still life.  The fruits of fall will be the focus of this workshop; the abundance of the fall harvest will be the still life arrangement. Mary Ann Heinzen teaches by first demonstrating and then providing support, while students paint their own interpretations of the subject. While basics such as drawing skills, design, and composition are always included; the emphasis will be on enjoying this exciting medium. Beginners are welcome. Some materials will be available for use at the Art Loft, however students are encouraged to bring their own materials. A supply list is available.

Learn to crop, cull, and edit your photos for the best effect.
In this class, we will review both free and paid editing options, downloading and uploading files, and file size requirements for all applications. Bring your camera, phone, and your laptop or tablet. This class is applicable for both DSLR and phone photographers.

Getting Creative with Your iPhone or iPad

Get creative with the tool you hold in your hands everyday! This class will help you use your iPhone or iPad to express yourself creatively. Debbie will take you through a step-by-step process using your own photos or stock photography and combine them to make an amazing image. The apps you will need for this class are: SuperimposeX, Procreate, and Snapseed which will be used to cut out elements for layering and painting background images. The total cost for the apps is $15 purchased through your iTunes account. Please bring your iPad or iPhone and a stylus.

Create Compelling Composition
Instructor: Anne Hebebrand

Join Anne Hebebrand for this exciting class and learn to use color and design to the best advantage in your artwork. Using the following principles of art and design: Balance, Contrast, Emphasis, Movement, Pattern, Rhythm, Unity/Variety we will create small abstractions that draw the viewer in. Learn how to make the eye move around the painting and what it takes to make a strong composition.
