Join Naomi and create your own altered book!
Altered books are the perfect way to dive into creativity and develop your ability to express yourself personally. Painting, text, and found objects will be integrated to create amazing pieces that are meaningful and personal. All materials provided, however if there are objects, photos, or specific things you would like to incorporate, bring them along. Old paintings are great integrations as well.

Figure Drawing
Instructor: Katharina Gifford
Saturday, Sept. 14, 9 a.m.
- Noon
Drop-in: Free to members, $20 for non-members
The goal of this class is for the student to understand and practice seeing and representing the figure using fundamental methods of drawing based on traditional drawing and observation principles. After a series of demos by the instructor, students begin with block in drawing, learning to see the figure as a whole and to clearly develop proper proportions and gesture in a linear way. This is a life drawing class in the traditional sense where we will be working with a live model each week. The model will not be clothed while the class is in session. Please be advised, a parent or guardian must accompany students under the age of 18. Classes will be held every Saturday morning in September. A donation for the model would be appreciated.

September Landscapes – Outdoor Watercolor Workshop
Instructor: Maryann Heinzen
Wednesday, Sept. 18,
9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., $35
Loosen up and try a bold approach to watercolors at the beach. This class will meet at Birch Point State Park for an outdoor painting experience. Students should bring their own materials, chairs, and equipment if they have them. Beginners are welcome, and the Art Loft will provide materials for those who do not yet have their own.  Maryann teaches by demonstrating and providing feedback while students paint their own interpretations of the subject.  For a suggested supply list, e-mail Maryann: maryannheinzen@gmail.com.  In case of rain, the class will meet at the Art Loft.

9:30 a.m. – Noon, $35
In this workshop you will learn a process for abstract painting, exploring a multi-step technique using line, shape, color. Learn how to tap into your imagination and hone in your viewpoint to create an exciting piece.
While learning this process discussion will include how to read and take in information from left to right, how to limit busy sections of the paintings, how to create depth, how to ground an abstract piece. We will be painting with acrylics on canvas and your work of art will be ready to hang when you return home.
