ROCKLAND — Beginning Thursday, Oct. 24, and for four consecutive Thursdays, the Farnsworth Art Museum will hold a workshop entitled "Introduction to Watercolors." Led by artist Erica Qualey, the class will take place on Thursdays through Nov. 14, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the museum’s Gamble Education Center, at the corner of Union and Grace Streets.

In this four-week workshop, participants will learn the basics of how watercolors work on paper. They will build thumbnail sketches, and color and value studies into paintings while discovering techniques such as masking, building dynamic washes, stamping, and pouring and splattering paint.

Qualey is an artist living in Midcoast Maine. She received her BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology and works as an artist, illustrator and studio instructor. Her work has been exhibited in Maine and New Hampshire and is in private collections throughout the country.

Fee $216, $175 museum members. For more information or to register, visit
