Camden — Gertrude Marie Canfield, 88, a longtime resident, formerly of Florida and New Jersey, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, at her residence. She was born Oct. 16, 1928, in Woodbridge, N.J., a daughter of Stephen and Gertrude (Kath) Guerin and was educated in New Jersey schools. She met and married William Andrew Canfield, who predeceased her in 2008.

Gertrude owned and operated a retail store in the Sea Girt, N.J., area for more than 25 years before retiring to Maine with her husband and settling in Camden. She moved for 2.5 years following her husband’s death to Celebration, Fla., returning to Camden to be near family.

She was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Good Hope Parish in Camden.

Gertrude was predeceased by her husband, and a sister, Mary Ellen Burns.

Survivors include three sons, Timothy A. and his wife, Monalisa Canfield, of Warren, David and his wife, Patricia Canfield, of Neptune, N.J., William J. and his wife, Janet Canfield, of Titusville, Fla.; a cousin, Mary Musolf of Cinnaminson, N.J.; four grandchildren, Michael, Patrick, Sean and Erin Canfield; and her canine companion, Lily.

A private graveside service will be held at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center, P.O. Box 707, Rockport, ME 04856 or to the Salvation Army, 27 Payne Ave., Rockland, ME 04841.
