Thomaston — Following an executive session Tuesday, Sept. 3, the Thomaston Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to appoint Town Clerk Kara George as the interim town manager.

After the resignation of former Town Manager Valmore Blastow Jr., the town of Thomaston hired consultant Don Gerrish of Eaton and Peabody Consulting Group July 8 to assist in the town manager search.

After proceeding with the hiring process by advertising the position, selecting candidates to interview, and conducting interviews, the Personnel Committee recommended to the Select Board to advertise the position again at the beginning of next year.

Gerrish will continue to assist the town with the next town manager search.

George will fill the position of interim manager while the search continues into the new year.

She has worked for the town of Thomaston since 2017 and previously worked for the city of Rockland for seven years as finance clerk, voter registrar, assistant clerk and assistant tax collector.

She has a bachelor's degree in marketing management from Thomas College in Waterville and is a member of Maine Municipal Association and the Maine Town and City Clerk Association.
