Rockport — Just two days from All-Hallows Eve, Halloween, another opponent learned the Camden Hills girls soccer team is, well, scary good.

Very, very scary and, very, very good.

In fact, frighteningly good.

And, for the Windjammers, there is no magic spells, witchcraft or supernatural transformations.

Camden Hills, as foes have learned game after game the past four years, simply is a beast on the pitch.

All of that again was true on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 29 as the Windjammers took the first step of what is expected to be four in their quest for a fourth straight state Class A championship.

No. 1 Camden Hills (15-0), also this year's Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A champion, stepped on Don Palmer Field Tuesday after a long layoff between games and clicked on all cylinders.

That, ultimately, led to a haunting experience for No. 8 Lewiston (4-9-3).

The Windjammers sailed to a 12-0 Class A North quarterfinal playoff victory over the Blue Devils, and will host No. 4 Oxford Hills of South Paris (10-4-1), after the Vikings' 4-3 overtime win over No. 5 Messalonskee of Oakland (8-4-3) in another quarterfinal clash, on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. in the regional semifinals on the artificial turf field at Lincoln Academy in Newcastle.

Don Palmer Field has been deemed unplayable due to recent heavy rain.

Lewiston, which beat No. 9 Brewer in a prelim playoff, finished the campaign 4-9-3.

Including the first round of the playoffs, Camden Hills, the three-time defending state Class A champion, now has outscored opponents 108-10, with eight shutouts.

Earlier this season, the Windjammers defeated Messalonsee 6-1, Oxford Hills 9-2 and Lewiston 6-0.

On Tuesday, the well-oiled, dominant Windjammer machine kicked it up a notch or two.

Kris Kelly netted six goals, Ella Pierce two and Ali Tassoni, Ella Powers, Frances Ostensen and Ali Saucier one.

The Windjammers led 7-0 at halftime. Kelly accounted for four goals in the first 40 minutes.

A list of those with assists was unavailable, but it is known Kaylyn Krul had at least one assist.

Camden Hills finished with 24 shots on goal and six corner kicks, according to the official book. Alex Southworth started in net for the hosts.

Kelly started the goal blitz at the 34:20-mark, followed by Pierce at 31:08 and Tassoni at 26:21. Kelly then scored three straight goals at 14:02, 13:29 and 9:28, while Pierce added her second at 6:47.

Powers got the proverbial ball rolling for Camden Hills in the second half with a goal at 38:27, while Kelly scored at 28:05 and 21:52, Ostensen at 4:28 and Saucier finished the onslaught at 45.3 seconds.

Kelly increased her school career record offensive output and now has 151 goals, at least 63 assists and 36 hat tricks over four years as a Windjammers.
