Free video game development workshop

Apr 10, 2018

Rockland — Wade Brainerd and Michael Vance, two senior game developers at Activision, will lead a free workshop on video game development for teens and adults Saturday, April 28, from noon to 4 p.m. at Steel House South, 639 Main St.

No experience is necessary. Participants will be using the PICO-8 Fantasy Console development environment; RSVP to info@rocklandsteelhouse.com and indicate if you can bring your own laptop.

Brainerd has been at Activision for almost 20 years and has worked on almost every piece of console hardware in that time, leading teams that provide the systems and rendering that libraries use across multiple projects. He has provided technical leadership and innovation on the “Call of Duty” teams for the past several years. Brainerd grew up in Orono and lived in Los Angeles for many years before moving back to Maine a decade ago.

Vance has been working at Activision since 2001. In that time, he has led the teams working on the “Spider-Man” games; and has been contributing primarily to “Call of Duty” for the better portion of the last decade, in the role of systems and rendering programmer. He grew up in Pennsylvania and lived in Los Angeles for a decade before moving to Maine.
