Following on last year’s 100th anniversary of Edna St. Vincent Millay’s “discovery” at the Whitehall Inn, this summer’s series will kick off this evening, July 11, with a reading at 7 p.m., titled “Millay’s Legacy: Poetry on the Coast.” Four featured Maine poets, Jacob Fricke, Brianna Housman, Annaliese Jakimides, and Ellen Sander, will present works by Millay as well as their own.

Brianna Housman of Searsport was one of the ten state finalists in the Poetry Out Loud competition in both 2012 and 2013. A recent graduate of Searsport District High School, the multi-talented Housman will attend the University of Southern Maine this fall, where she will major in musical theater.

Annaliese Jakimides’ poetry and prose have been published in Beloit Poetry Journal, Utne, Off the Coast, Café Review, Maine Home+Design, Bangor Metro, Handsome, and Consequence, among others, and broadcast on public radio. She served as poetry editor of Bangor Metro and currently edits the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts monograph series. She also facilitates discussions for the Maine Humanities Council.

She hosts the monthly poetry readings at Bell the Cat in Belfast.
