Free community event tonight! Maine’s notable men and women of Irish descent presented by Hugh Curran at the Hutchinson Center- July 13

Belfast, Maine — The University of Maine Hutchinson Center will host Hugh Curran, UMaine instructor and lecturer, who will deliver a presentation on the state’s notable men and women of Irish descent, including the poet Louise Bogan and filmmaker John Ford.

The free public presentation will be held on Friday, July 13, 7–9 p.m.

Curran was born in a Gaelic speaking part of Donegal, Ireland. He spent 14 years in northern Canada and Nova Scotia and five years in a Buddhist monastery. After moving to Maine in the mid-1970s, he built his own home and later spent five years as the director of a homeless shelter in Down East Maine. He currently teaches in UMaine’s Peace and Reconciliation Studies Program.
