Fran and Dave’s repertoire includes traditional American folk as well as original songs.

Stockton Springs — The annual Open Mic Plus series continues Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Sandy Point Community Hall, 684 Route 1. The seasonal events take place on the third Wednesday of every month through October.

The evening opens with an open mic hour, open to all ages and levels of talent including poets, storytellers, jokesters and musicians. After a 15-minute break for refreshment, the feature performance hour begins about 8:15 p.m.

Performing Aug. 16 are Fran and Dave, Stockton Springs’ own acoustic folk duo. Using blended harmonies and traditional folk instruments including guitar, bowed psaltery, accordion, mandolin and autoharp, they engage audiences with melody, fun and humor. They sometimes invite talented friends to join them, as Dave and Fran Plus. This evening will celebrate the release of their new CD, “Ripened Fruit.”

Fran and Dave recently made a 45-day tour of the country on Amtrak, playing at cafes, grange halls, coffeehouses, house parties, farmer’s markets, on the train and on the street. Locally, they play the Common Ground Country Fair, Maine Fare Festival, Belfast Arts in the Park and New Year’s By the Bay, aboard the schooner Lynx and at the Bayside Yacht Club. They also have performed at the Maine State House, the outer Maine islands, nursing homes and rehab facilities. Fran and Dave have used music as a healing tool and self-esteem builder with numerous teenage foster children.
