Foundation to award scholarships

Feb 17, 2021

The Worthington Scholarship Foundation will award approximately 260 scholarships to 2021 graduates of most high schools in Lincoln, Knox, Waldo, Hancock, and Washington counties who are planning to attend certain Maine colleges (listed below).

Two hundred college scholarships ($16,000 each) are for applicants with a minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4-point scale, an expected family contribution of $15,000 or less, and enrolled full-time at 12 credit-hours or more. The remaining 60 scholarships (up to $14,000 each) will go to those attending any Maine community college. The only difference between college and community college scholarships, other than their value, is that community college applicants must have a minimum 2.2 GPA.

Further information may be found at WorthingtonScholars.org, guidance offices, and WSF volunteers from Machias Savings Bank, First National Bank, and UMaine’s Hutchinson Center.

Worthington Scholars will receive the full resources of the college they attend as well as Worthington student support staff who will assist them with their transition to college and provide information on college resources.

For the graduating class of 2022, this scholarship program will be expanded to include, at a minimum, public high schools in Penobscot, Piscataquis, Somerset, Franklin, and Oxford counties, with approximately 400 college and 120 community college awards. Further growth is anticipated to occur in 2023 when scholarships valued at approximately $10,000,000 will be offered each year.

The Worthington Scholarship Foundation is working on behalf of Worthington Scholars to ensure they receive a quality education without burdening them with excess debt as well as providing the engagement tools necessary for a successful education. The donors intend every recipient shall do their best and complete their degree.
