Former lighthouse keeper shares stories Nov. 18

Rockland — Georges River Land Trust presents 89-year old Ernest DeRaps telling stories of his life as a lighthouse keeper in Penobscot Bay Saturday, Nov. 18, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Langlais Sculpture Preserve, 576 River Rd., Cushing. During the 1950’s, he and his family were stationed at Monhegan Island, Fort Point, Browns Head and Heron Neck.

DeRaps and his wife, Pauline, have written a journal depicting their lifestyle of lightkeeping from both the lightkeeper's and the lightkeeper’s wife’s perspective. Stories and photographs of the lighthouses and island life a half-century ago will be shared. DeRaps, a writer and painter, will also show some of his paintings.
