For Camden Hills, girls continue winning ways, boys again come up short

Krul sisters account for 26 points in Windjammer girls fourth win at midway point of campaign

The Camden Hills basketball teams came away with a split in a pair of high school hardwood affairs on Thursday, Jan. 10 against Mount Ararat of Topsham.

The Windjammer girls sailed to a 49-40 home win over the Eagles in Rockport, while the Windjammer boys suffered a 58-47 road loss in Topsham.

After an O-4 start, the girls have won four of five games. On the flip side, the boys opened the season with a victory, but have lost eight straight since.

Girls

Camden Hills 49, Mount Ararat 40

At Rockport Jan. 10, the Windjammers jammed to their fourth win of the campaign, this time over the Eagles. Camden Hills led 14-7, 21-12 and 40-27 at the quarter breaks.

Kassie Krul netted 17 points for Camden Hills, while Kaylyn Krul added nine; Miranda Dunton and Audrey Bowman, six; Grace O’Connell, five; and Ella Powers and Anya Babb-Brott, three.

Kyla Greenleaf paced Mount Ararat with 12 points, while Theresa Breed added 10; Ainsley Bryant, seven; Lauren Magno, four; Elsa Daulerio, three; and Alexa Eaton, two.

The Windjammers were 12-of-16 (75 percent) from the foul line, while the Eagles were 6-of-10 (60 percent).

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class A North, Camden Hills (4-5, 19.6914 points) is sixth, while Skowhegan (9-0, 40.4321 points) is first in the 12-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.

Boys

Mount Ararat 58, Camden Hills 47

At Topsham Jan. 10, the Eagles soared past the Windjammers. Mount Ararat led 8-5, 26-24 and 44-32 at the quarter breaks.

Jeremy Fraser scored 14 points for the Windjammers, while Michael Kremin added nine; Michael McGeady, seven; Jon Runnion-Bareford, five; Kerry Sabanty, four; and Ionut Lodge, Josh Pearse and Ryan Clifford, two.

Jared Balser scored 32 points for the Eagles, while Austin Damon added 11; J.D. Dionne, James Singleton and Willie Kavanaugh, four; Max Spelke, two; and Nick Taylor, one.

Camden Hills was 11-of-17 (65 percent) from the foul line, while Mount Ararat was 10-of-16 (62 percent).

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class A North, Camden Hills (1-8, 1.1728 points) is 11th, while Mount Blue of Farmington (7-2, 31.8519 points) is first in the 12-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.
