Waldoboro — Shelley’s Flowers & Gifts, 1738 Atlantic Highway, will host its “Community Open House/Designing with the Stars” floral design contest Thursday, Nov. 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. The public is invited to come and participate in this fun-filled event by cheering on their favorite designer. Proceeds from this year’s contest will benefit the Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County.

Designing with the Stars features community members as floral design contestants. Each designer will be given the same flowers and container to create their own holiday bouquet. The designer with the most votes will be declared the winner.

This year’s participants are Kelly Scofield of Jefferson, John Gatcombe Jr. of Waldoboro, Tena Wallace of Spruce Head; Judy Brogden of Union; Susan Cramer of Waldoboro; Stephanie Reichard of Waldoboro, Samantha Parker of Friendship and Debbie Mullinder of Appleton.

The competition will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Friends, family, neighbors and coworkers are invited to come and vote for their favorite design and designer. Contestants will be collecting votes at the event and beforehand. The public is encouraged to support their favorite designer ($1 per vote) early and often.

On the evening of the event, shoppers will be able to view the designs, cheer on the designers, and sample homemade refreshments and adult beverages.
